This post shows all the pages and their activities. Enjoy - this was a fun (and challenging) project!
Page 1 - Camping With Dad <-- Click the titles to visit the page's post for instructions
On this page, the activity is to "pitch" a tent by tying its lines to stakes in the ground. I used nylon material on the tent to get a realistic texture and only attached the tent at the top and bottom. This allows it to have some "flop" so one can feel as if they are pitching a tent for real.
I even built working flaps into the tent and whipped up a overnight "guest" inside the tent.
This is by far my favorite page in the spread, not only because I love sushi (so does the book recipient), but because I've just darn never seen this done before. I really quite enjoy creating something with an original idea. And it's educational to boot. But, it was also the most technically challenging because of all the round shapes and next time I'll likely make it differently.
I used my diecutter to make the shapes with flocked heat transfer vinyl. I used this material extensively in this project and it really helped me do some really cool things.
Pieces on the cutting board
The knife can be used to "slice" the piece of roll off.
All of the pieces matched into the bento box
A pretty straightforward page where one catches sequined fish.
This page comes in at a close second for my favorite pages. I honestly was sad that I only had two 7" x 7" spaces to work with as there are so many fun things to do with this idea. The activity here is to "drive" cars to their destinations by sliding them along fabric tracks (I think my execution was pretty clever if I do say so...). Another highly complex page, but it definitely shows in the end.
A car having "arrived"
Here's a lousy cell phone video of how the car moves. This also demonstrates my inability to hold the phone in the proper position for taking video:
this is pretty neat!
